My “Twisted” Journey Toward EdTech

I discovered my passion for education after completing the Gaokao (China’s college entrance exam). While tutoring English, I saw how many students struggled with the pressures of learning a language only for test scores, rather than as a tool for communication and connecting with people from different backgrounds and cultures. This inspired me to help learners reconnect with the true purpose of language education.
My Teaching Journey
📚 From Chemistry to Education:
I initially majored in Chemical Materials but soon realized my true passion lay in teaching. Switching to English Education marked a turning point in my life.
👩‍🏫 Teaching Experiences:
Over the years, I taught more than 100 students, ranging from children learning spoken English to adults preparing for job interviews, and even IELTS candidates aiming to study abroad. Each experience gave me deeper insight into how people learn and the unique challenges they face, particularly in exam-driven environments.
The Power of Technology in Education
🎥 Expanding Reach Through Media:
While teaching, I realized traditional classrooms had limits, so I turned to digital platforms. I started creating educational videos on Bilibili (China’s YouTube), blending language learning with storytelling.
🚀 Impact:
The response exceeded my expectations—my channel grew to over 200,000 views and 4,000+ subscribers, proving that digital tools could make learning accessible, engaging, and effective. This success showed me the transformative potential of combining education with technology.
Bridging Technology and Education
💡 Studying Learning Technology at NYU:
Motivated by my experiences, I chose to pursue a master’s degree in Learning Technology at NYU, where I’m learning to design innovative solutions that make education more impactful. My focus is on blending instructional design, storytelling, and technology to create learning experiences that empower students to grow, connect, and thrive.
What Drives Me
At the heart of my work is a belief that education is not just about tests or grades—it’s about fostering curiosity, building confidence, and connecting people across cultures. My mission is to use tools to create experiences that inspire students to see learning as an opportunity to explore the world and unlock their potential.
